All skill levels are welcome to come enjoy Creative Arts Camp! Engaging art instructors will walk you through creating a variety of artistic expressions. All leadership and materials are provided!
Noel Hawke of Billings will give instruction in plein air watercolor painting. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, she will help you! Then go outside to paint the beauty of the Boulder River, the Custer-Gallatin National Forest, or the magnificent Mount Hawley…OR focus in on an exquisite wildflower.
Maggie Carlson of Wyola will lead you in constructing a lantern made of willow branches, rice paper and watercolors. Poetry and adornments may be added. Forest fairy energy!
Terry Zee Lee of Billings will assist you in making a kite (a different design from last year) that you can personalize with your own shapes and colors. We’ll fly them in the mountain breeze! Wheee!
Linda Lemire of Billings is offering a workshop on Indigo and Shibori Textiles. Dye bandannas, napkins, and handkerchiefs to deep indigo while integrating designs and patterns via Shibori folding, tying, clamping, and binding techniques. Get your blues on!
In addition to the art sessions, you’ll have opportunities for a hike, a labyrinth walk, and evening fun. Bill Yellowtail will offer Native Storytelling around the campfire. Anyone under 18 needs to come with a parent or guardian.
Leader: Rachel Larson Long
Rachel is a Billings artist in great demand for her talent, her teaching skills, and her art therapy experience. She has made art with every age group in such varied settings as the Flathead Reservation, schools on Guam, and women’s prison. She participates in the Billings Art Association, Urban Sketchers, and the Montana Art Therapy Association, which allow her to connect with many wonderful artists in an array of disciplines. Rachel loves Mimanagish and the beautiful Boulder River Valley and is enthusiastic about bringing people there to enjoy making art!
