The Soul of Aging Spiritual Retreat

At some point every person faces the inevitability of aging, its challenges and delights. Speaking about the aging process, Mary Catherine Bateson wrote: We do not need formulas or rigid models to follow; we need to be drawn into a common process of search that will suggest new ways of being. For those who wish to engage in that search, the retreat called “The Soul of Aging” offers great opportunities.
The Circle of Trust experience called “The Soul of Aging” is for people who long to gently explore, understand, and be transformed by the aging process. The themes address the spiritual aspects of this life season, including forgiveness, yearnings, time, serving others, and befriending our own deaths. The approach is spiritual and respectful of each person’s personal belief system. The experience requires an open spirit and honest sharing.
Based on the pioneering work of Dr. Parker J. Palmer, the Circle of Trust approach has been developed through the Center for Courage and Renewal. Participants, with a trained leader such as Cathy Barker, create a safe, confidential, and sacred space where people support each other in accessing the voice of their soul. Essays, poetry, and images inspire journaling and self-discovery. Touchstones guide the way. Everyone has the opportunity to listen deeply to the others as well as to their own inner teacher.
The schedule will also allow free time for hiking, fishing, reading, resting, and other creative endeavors. A labyrinth for walking meditation, trails for short walks or long ones, campfires for singing – all in the healing context of the forest. This is a soul-nourishing retreat.
