The Soul of Aging Retreat
Monday, September 15, 2:00 – Friday, September 19, 2:00
At some point we each may be gifted by the process of aging, its challenges and
delights. Let yourself gently explore, understand, and be transformed by developing a
fuller relationship with the aging process. Explore themes of forgiveness, yearnings,
mentoring and teaching, befriending death, and time.
In this time of gentle and essential spirit-tending a small group creates a Circle of Trust,
practices honest and open questions, and helps “hear each other into deeper
speech.” Each of the four days includes two sessions along with time to process in the
nourishing beauty of the Boulder River valley. Poetry, images, and essays help
participants to access their Inner Teachers. Journal prompts invite open-hearted writing
or art. “Touchstones” help assure safe space and shape individual sharing, which is
always by invitation, not demand. The approach respects the diversity of each person’s
beliefs.
Enjoy free time for hiking, fishing, reading, walking the labyrinth, and other creative
endeavors…all in the healing context of Mimanagish. Circles of Trust are based on the
work of Parker Palmer, founder of the Center for Courage and Renewal, American
author, activist and wisdom-sharer.

About these retreats from a participant:
I learned that we all struggle with something – the vulnerability shared makes me want
to be more vulnerable and real. I’m getting less judgmental towards myself. Everyone
needs to experience this kind of retreat, to refill their soul, to slow down and reflect on
their lives, to come away with a better, clearer understanding, to be connected with
oneself!
Retreat Leader Cathy Barker considers herself “a midwife to transformation.” She has
led and participated in Circle of Trust experiences for ten years, both in Mimanagish
retreats and in 10-week sessions in Helena. Over 100 people have participated, many come back!
Mimanagish is an equal opportunity provider operated under special use permit with the
Custer Gallatin National Forest.
