Geography of Grace Spiritual Retreat

August 16 @ 12:00 pm - August 19 @ 2:00 pm MDT

What does your soul say? How do you tend your inner geography – the mountains, the deserts, the marshes? What is your inner teacher telling you? In this week of soul-tending based on the work of Parker Palmer, we will create a circle of trust, learn honest and open questions, and help “hear each other into deeper speech.”

This experience begins with noon lunch on Monday, August 16. Each day we will engage in two 2½ hour sessions based on geographic themes, using poetry, images, and essays to provoke our thoughts and access our souls. Journal prompts lead us to write or draw freely following our hearts. Touchstones shape our sharing, which is always by invitation, not demand. We will learn to ask honest, open questions of each other to invite new insights and welcome the shy soul into a safe space.

The schedule will also allow free time for hiking, fishing, reading, resting, and other creative endeavors. A labyrinth for walking meditation, trails for short walks or long ones, campfires for singing – all beckon you. The retreat will conclude by 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 19.

Camp Mimanagish (“Place of Singing Waters”) lies on the Boulder River 40 miles south of Big Timber, Montana. The mountain air invigorates and ignites the spirit in this beautiful, sacred place. The accommodations are rustic, with simple, cozy cabins and a central showerhouse. Accessible lodging is available on a limited basis. Non-participants may also attend. We’ll all help with basic chores.

A recent participant said this: “Geography of Grace was not churchy, preachy, religious, biased, or directed. It is an open question to your soul. It starts as a random group of people and quickly becomes open and cohesive. They are willing to listen, support, and uplift you on your personal journey. If you are open to the experience you will explore the deep regions of your own soul. The discoveries can be life changing.”

The cost is just $250 for this extraordinary soul-nourishing experience. Scholarships are available but you may contact Cathy to get a coupon code before registering. If you have any questions, please contact Cathy Barker: or 406-422-3346. Feel free to share the news of this retreat with people you know who might be interested.
